Part 2: Will It Stay Up?

Expert Tips for Hanging Art and Mirrors

In Part 1, we covered how to identify your wall type and choose the right fixing method. Now let’s take things further with professional placement tips, mirror-specific advice, and clever design solutions.

The Chic Alternative to Heavy Lifting

Love the look of a large mirror but worried your wall can’t safely support it?

Consider a composition of smaller mirrors instead. Arranged in a grid, vertical stack, or organic pattern, grouped mirrors:

Create the reflection and light of a large mirror

Spread the weight across multiple fixing points

Add visual interest and personality

It’s safer — and often far more striking.

Finding the Perfect Height

“Hang it at eye level” sounds simple… until you realise everyone’s eye level is different.

Professionals use a consistent guideline:
👉 The centre of the artwork or mirror should sit approximately 1500mm from the floor

This height works beautifully across most homes, whether you’re standing or seated. You can adjust slightly for high ceilings or low furniture, but 1500mm is a reliable starting point.

Tape Before You Drill

Before making permanent holes, use painter’s tape to map out placement. Step back and check:

  • Is it centred over furniture?
  • Does it feel balanced from other rooms?
  • Is it interacting awkwardly with lighting or doors?

Adjusting tape is easy. Patching holes is not.

Mirrors: The Divas of Décor

Mirrors demand extra respect. They’re heavier, more fragile, and far less forgiving than artwork.

Never rely on double-sided tape alone.
Tape is only used to hold a mirror in place while silicone cures — it is not a fixing method.

Always use pH-neutral glazing silicone, which is specifically designed for mirrors. Standard adhesives can chemically react with the mirror backing, causing de-lamination, black edge creep, and permanent damage.

Professional mirror installation should always include:

  • pH-neutral glazing silicone
  • Mirror-specific mechanical fixings
  • Multiple fixing points to distribute weight
  • Extra care in bathrooms and high-humidity areas

When in Doubt, Call a Professional

Great installation should feel effortless. You shouldn’t notice hooks, fixings, or hardware — just artwork and mirrors that feel secure, balanced, and like they’ve always belonged.

If a mirror feels heavy or a wall feels risky, calling in a professional is always the safest choice.
